The first time I visited the Wailing Wall was during Shabbat, our hosts told us to observe without cameras in respect of the Jewish law. Cries of Hebrew prayers sounded much like Pentecostal church folk "speaking in tongues". It was both foreign and familiar, haunting and celebratory. Women faced towards the wall, said to be the holiest place in Jerusalem, some burying small paper notes into its sacred cracks in hopes that God will answer. I came back a few days later, outside of the Shabbat time period, to document the women at the Wailing Wall.
